Design The visual elements on the page definitely focus the visitors' eyes on the giant pepsi logo on the bottom of the page. Also, another thing that attracts attention is the cover flow of the content pages. This is a sort of navigation, which shows you the pages that you are going to. Most of the variety of colors are used in this cover flow. The colors on the rest of the page are really just red, blue, and purple, which are Pepsi's colors. Also, the cover flow images are the only images on the page, and I think that they add a lot of value, because they enable viewers to see the pages that they are visiting without blindly clinking on buttons that they think might be relevant to the topic that they want to read about. Above is a picture of the cover flow of the content pages. These are all pages within Pepsi. One thing that I think Pepsi really needs to work on is the draw time of their page. The page takes anywhere from 6 to 15 seconds to load. That is a lot, and the content on the page is not worth it. Although they give pictures and updates on the loading process, along with the Pepsi music, it is still a long time to wait for a web page to load. In addition, there is not much text on the home page. All of the text that does show is the text from the cover flow. The rest is just used in the navigation buttons. On the right is a screen shot from the Pepsi loading page. As you see, they try to make it a little interesting. Also, the left shows the music that they play. Also, there is the actual homepage loading. It is amazing that I had the time to take a screen shot of the loading. Consistency There is not much consistency at all on the subsequent pages. The colors are mostly different, for example. The homepage has very dark colors, like red and blue, while the other pages have neon green and pink. I do not think that this helps their pages, as it is really annoying to see different colors on every page. Also, the navigation is not consistent at all. To start with, when you click on a button to go to a content page, the button opens the content page in a new tab. Every time you want to go to another content page, you have to close out of that tab, go back to the homepage, and navigate from there, seeing as there is no navigation in the content pages. The screen shot on the right is of the Pepsi homepage, and the screen shot on the left is on the subsequent page dedicated to recycling. As you see, they are very different. Finally, the fonts are extremely different. There will be big fonts on one page, small fonts on another, or times new roman for one page, and then castellar for another. |
